Opening weekend REVIEW

Gentlemen, upon further reflection regarding our opening slate of matches, you should be congratulated on an overall job well done yesterday. In my view, we learned a bit more about ourselves as a result:

1.) We CAN (and NEED to more) play possession soccer where we successfully switch fields, play to space, and avoid playing the ball straight ahead all the time. I think the Allendale effort was prime evidence of the fact that we CAN play that positive style of soccer. Let's keep building good habits in that regard!

2.) At this point, we are weak on 50/50 balls--especially in our own box--and a high level of FEARLESSNESS needs to be displayed on a much more consistent basis. Our effort in this area cost us many opportunities to attack and also led to a few debilitating goals against.

3.) We need to keep our COMPOSURE--in regard to referees, opponents, game conditions, etc. For the most part, I think we did a nice job in this department, but certainly not so much in the Hastings game. Let's keep our heads!

4.) There were a lot of positive signs from the day--from great individual efforts to an overall positive team attitude--in which to build on as we proceed into the bulk of the season. Now it's time to re-focus and set our sights on a tough, vengeful GRANDVILLE team on Tuesday!

I'm looking forward to having another great week of soccer with you guys. Come tomorrow (930 AM in my room) ready to focus and work!
