Theme and Quotation of the upcoming week:

DETAILS, DETAILS, DETAILS!

We HAVE to become a team more in tune with "little things" on the soccer field and off. I can ASSURE you that doing so and developing those good habits will lead to good things on the soccer field (and off). After all, soccer (like many other sports) is a game of inches and without that attention to detail--finishing that through ball run IN PRACTICE or IN WARM-UPS, running through the ball during a tackle IN PRACTICE or IN WARM-UPS, showing up to play and learn EARLY and EAGER for PRACTICE, MEETINGS, etc.--negative consequences are (and have been thus far this season) the result.

In honor of this theme, I want you to respond with your own thoughts or as a reaction to a teammate's sentiments to this quotation from Michigan's very own Henry Ford by Wednesday morning of this week at 7:30:

"Paying attention to simple little things that most men neglect makes a few men rich."

Reminders: We are "dressing up" in school for tomorrow's game vs. Zeeland West. That means NO JEANS. Also, WEAR YOUR WHITE SHIRTS FOR WARM-UPS. The bus leaves at 4 P.M.

  1. To me this means that if we as a soccer team pay attention to every detail we will be rewarded. Maybe not with wins but with a step toward our team goals.

  2. I agree with R.j, but I think that the littlest details make the biggest plays possible in soccer. So the result would be with wins, which is one of our team goals.

  3. To me this quote means that if you pay attention to details, you will be a better player and a better team as a whole. Paying attention to details might result in wins but it doesn't have to be a winning season all the time as long as you pay attention to details and try 100% of the time.

  4. i see this as its saying if you focus on what you are there for not whos watching or whatever but a win and u focus on all the things we work or butts of for in practice and put them into the game were the should be easy because we do them everyday then we will be a soccer team not just a team with jerseys and kicks a ball around but a team that plays the game the way it should be played

  5. Guys...I like your ideas. However, remember that investing in the little things is something that you just can't turn on and off. It's got to be something that you strive to do all the time...summer, fall, winter, spring, soccer field, home, classroom, etc... Here is a quote from Aristotle that fits really well with Henry Fords quote...(I heard it on the Mike and Mike morning show today)
"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit."
    Aristotle

  8. I think in means that if we do every little detail we will be rewarded like rj and cam it may not be in wins but getting better and taking steps in the right direction as a team

  9. i think that this is saying that if we pay attention to those little details (what shirts to wear, what time practice is) that other teams dont we will be rewarded

  10. People often miss the little parts that make up the big picture, this is why people who don't, are the successful ones, the ones that pay attention to every little thing.

P.S. I think that shirt is mine, it's a medium and has "14" on the tag.

  11. If we can catch the little ins and outs of the game that the other teams don't pick up that is one step towards beating them.

This quote means to me that when you don't do everything and not just take the easy way out, you will be successful in whatever you do.

Details, details, details, details, details...oh, and some more details.

I think that it is saying that if we do all the little things/details (wear right clothes, come on time) that other teams might not do, we will be rewarded for our hard work.

  16. Josh's comment:

I think focusing on details is one of the most important thing in life. It applies because you should do 100% of a thing, not just 50%. Without the details, it's nothing. You aren't a team until all details are collected every single time.

  17. Jake's comment:

Few people pay attention to every detail, so if we can do this--not just at any given time, but all the time--then we put ourselves way above everyone else.

  18. Justin's comment:

The perfection of the details equals up to the perfection of the man/team.

  19. Jared's comment:

If you follow details, you will be very successful and be a rich man like Henry Ford was...unlike others.

  20. Dylan's comment:

To me, it means that if the team pays attention to detail, we will receive what we work for--maybe not a win, but it'll be towards our team goals.
