Theme and Quotation of the upcoming week:

This week (Sept. 28-Oct. 3) is a HUGE ONE, guys: our last two regular season conference games and a big Saturday non-conference game vs. a team that ended our season this past year in Districts. Simply put, each and every one of us needs to STEP UP to the plate and help us continue this positive momentum that we have going at this point of the season.

Therefore, the theme for this week is PERFORMANCE. In other words, there are no more excuses at this point of the season, and we all simply have to suck it up and PERFORM IN THE CLUTCH. Recall the 4 stages of the team process: forming, storming, norming, and performing. At this point of the season, we need to be (and i'd argue we have been lately) in the final stage; that is, it's time to PERFORM WHEN IT COUNTS THE MOST! The question remains: who will step up in crunch time? Ok, enough sports cliches...

Here is a quotation I want you to respond to by Wednesday morning regarding PERFORMANCE. It's a German Proverb (wise words)...oh, those Germans are so smart, aren't they Frau Stieper? Here goes:

"To aim is not enough; you must hit!"

  1. This is like the saying "all talk, no action", it doesn't mean anything to say that we are going to win or achieve our goals; we actually have to do those things.

  2. I totally agree with what R.J. is saying. So next week, lets not only aim for the win, lets go out and "hit" for the win.

  3. I think this quote means that in soccer it doesnt matter how close you are to succeeding. The only time it counts to be close is in horseshoes and hand grenades...also darts.

  4. hahah cam. Anyways, i think this qoute can apply to a couple things in soccer, one being 50/50 balls, the other being shots. On 50/50 balls we tend to miss because we incorrectly estimate where it will go-we must aim and it the ball. With shooting, it is simple-aim, shoot, score.

  5. We can't keep aiming for wins, we just have to get them.

  6. To aim and not hit is to be all talk and no action. We have to fulfull our promises to ourselves and the team by being men of action.

To aim is not enough, because that means you are just trying or doing the minimum. To hit is going the max and you are trying/going your hardest and ending with more success.

We say all these things...now it's time to "hit" all if not most of your goals. Let's aim to hit, not just aim for nothing.

We can't just keep making goals if we don't perform to accomplish them. If we talk the talk, we have to walk the walk.

Without accuracy, there is no power. You must hit a target to build power. A team is not determined by its power but how accurate and precise every shot or pass is taken.

You have to take chances and not just try your best but capitalize on any opportunity that comes your way.

It's like saying that you "tried". It isn't enough to just try; you have to give it your best and not just try.

  13. Scholten's comment:

We can talk and tell each other where to aim but if we don't do it or shoot and hit, we will miss every time. So hit!

Come on, guys. Let's go out and get a win. They're not just gonna give it to us. We have to take it.

  15. If you just aim your asking for failure, it's like if you set goals but hardly even attempt to reach them. We can't say were going to try to win a game at this point in the season we have to actually do what we say and "hit" our goals.
