Theme and quotation of the week:

Gentlemen, one area in which I think we can do a better job as a team regards PHYSICAL TOUGHNESS (as opposed to mental) and FEARLESSNESS (one of our team goals/principles).

In other words, we can all improve upon going our HARDEST INTO EVERY TACKLE, CHALLENGING EVERY 50/50 BALL, STEPPING UP TO BIGGER OPPONENTS, LAYING YOUR BODY/HEALTH ON THE LINE FOR THE GOOD OF THE TEAM, AND SIMPLY THROWING OUR WEIGHT AROUND (LEGALLY AND NOT RECKLESSLY, OF COURSE) ON THE FIELD.

We need to pride ourselves in "out-toughing" opponents, and we've been inconsistent with that. Let's step it up!

Here is a quotation regarding toughness/fearlessness that I want you to respond to by Weds. morning at 7:30 AM. On your post, please include the full names of parents who plan on attending "parent night" this Wednesday.

"...the only thing we have to fear is fear itself."
-Franklin D. Roosevelt (1932 presidential inauguration speech)

  1. This quote means to me that if you have any fear of getting hurt or not making the easy pass and screwing up, you will fail. That is why we need to be fearless while were out on the field and play like our lives depend on it.

On Wednesday, Gary Rouwhorst & Carla Rouwhorst will be attending the parent night.

  2. So, we as a team cannot be afraid period. That fear is they only thing standing in our way. All fear must be set aside for us to be successful.

Both my parents Jay and Sue Flowers will be at parent night.

  5. Games are won by challenging all 50/50 balls. So if we are afraid of getting hurt while going for one we wont win. So the only thing to be afraid of is everyone being afraid.

Dennis and Kathy Perkins will be at the parent night

  8. Fear is nothing, only a simple word describing an emotion, an irrelevant emotion tied to the weak, we are not a weak team guys... now lets show it, man up and play some real ball like we know how to, and step out onto that field with our heads held high, this is possibly the last home game for our seniors, now lets play quality ball and have them (possibly) play there last game at home and be able to walk off the field after those 80 minutes with something to be proud of, they deserve it and we all deserve it. Here's a quote i especially like that is by another Roosevelt...
    - "You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do."
    -Eleanor Roosevelt

I think this quote means that if we let fear get to us, you will not be playing to our full potential and you should be fearless in any situation.

  13. Zach's comment:

I think that we have nothing to fear when playing bigger opponents or putting our head on the line to win a 50/50 ball. So we need to stop thinking we fear something and play fearless, and stand for what what we stand for.

  14. Jake's comment:

By fearing something, you keep thinking about it and it becomes more of a problem than what it really is. The solution: be fearless.

This is a really good quote by FDR. I think it means that if we are fearing of fear then we will be afraid to do thing and not be successful. We must be fearless when going into everything and not be afraid. This will bring us success.

This quote means to me that any fear inside of you will break you down and nothing will get accomplished. Fear is just a feeling. Fear can never kill you, so give it everything you've got. Pain is only weakness leaving the body, so it's time to show them what we've got.

I think this quote symbolizes to the need to be fearless. You should not be afraid of anything. It is only human nature that makes it that way. It pertains because we need to go head first, balls to the wall, on every play...and me especially on every play.
